Travel in the name of rock and roll, Californian flea market finds and the ultimate in beach escapism, for Spring Summer 2016 Scotch & Soda arrives in pursuit of adventure, peace and all the good things Summer provides. Driven by the imagined tales of historic pioneers including a rebellious restorer of old world architecture, a Parisian artist who sailed a hot air balloon in the name of art or an African explorer who risked his life for fauna; we discover bold colour, contrasting silhouettes and the most eclectic of details. Together, it’s a collection that stems from extraordinary people, exceptional vintage rarities and Summers past.
TOKYO CULT Working with strong silhouettes and a play on proportions, this story delivers key looks with an Eastern, yet urban edge. Cool, classic tailored styles with a sport luxe influence build easy going combinations for the contemporary man. Authentic and original kimono styling is in focus, teamed with collegiate graphics and hidden, sports inspired finishes. All over prints look to Batik, but appear on technical sportswear fabrics to form street-style pieces. The colour palate is Oriental inspired with Cherry Red softened by Mauve, and Tokyo Green highlighted by Spearmint, neighbouring Ecru and Antra; a fine choice that allows these bold silhouettes to sing.
SAFARI RAVE Positive vibes and ideas of freedom, modernist African art and the psychedelic feel of 70’s love posters forms the inspiration behind this wonderfully retro story. Military influence makes an appearance in key pieces, think army style jackets with sports lining. As with everything this season, a sports edge is present. Taping sits over seams to give a sporting look to finishes. Tonal blocking inspired by the patchwork in wind sails can be seen in shorts and shirts. Graphic art inspired by vintage band tees can be worn in combination with lightweight fabrics neoprene and mesh. All over prints pay homage to abstract African art in signature colours of the season, Burning Orange, Bordeaux, Berry and Sunset Dusk.
URBAN BAZAAR It’s time to hit the festival circuit with bold Indian inspired prints for a blissed out guy with a light heart. His mantra for the season? “It’s time to get high on chai” and “relax at Namaste beach”. Recoloured, modernised paisley and cheeky message tee shirts come in fresh, crisp colour ways. Embroideries lift artwork and add edge to fresh pieces. Look for the white trousers with svelte blue embroidered knee patch. Block prints in the style of Aztec vintage rugs and striped shorts make for powerful statements against a clean colour palate. The elaborate use of fresh, crisp whites alongside colours Masala Red, Indian Blue and Saffron add total harmony to this series.
BEACH ROYALS Our man is a nomadic city dweller, escaping his thoughts in the world’s most idyllic beaches. Here we work with lots of ecru, and team it with Flash Yellow and Dark Violet. Silhouettes allow for movement while colour brings this story together. Damaged fringing and raw edge detail is a retro throwback to style rebels of the past. Statement tees with prints reveal that rock star attitude and together with strong graphic details, this guy is hammock ready, no matter where he wakes up. From the far-reaching corners of Africa to the sandy white beaches of America, our Spring Summer 2016 guy travels with a suitcase full of style essentials.
